Milton Friedman once argued that companies that are socially responsible are stealing from their shareholders. Do you agree or disagree with the statement?
The theory that the only social responsibility of a company is profit is actually different from the mainstream view, but the desirability of Friedman's theory lies in the integrity of his thinking and the completeness of his theory. When you try to question his theory, friedman is ready to answer. The answer is a matter of opinion. Therefore, I think that the value of this theory in modern times lies more in Friedman's way of thinking and research methods, rather than the theory itself.
In any case, CSR has now become an accepted practice in all big companies, for all intents and purposes, and in practice has voted against Friedman.
The future is here, just not yet in vogue.
